A1 introduces higher-level technical studies while encouraging artistic expression and performance confidence. Students develop:

  • Confident shifting through third and fifth positions
  • Consistent vibrato across all fingers
  • Three-octave major and minor scales
  • Advanced bow strokes including spiccato and hooked bowings
  • Double-stop preparation and chord playing
  • Greater stylistic awareness of Baroque and Classical repertoire

Repertoire includes:

  • Concerto No. 2 in G Major (Seitz)
  • Concerto in G Major, 1st Movement (Vivaldi)
  • Meditation from Thaïs (simplified excerpt)
  • Sonatina in G (Beethoven)

This level strengthens advanced technical skills while developing expressive artistry and polished performance habits.

A2 – Advanced Performance (24 weeks)

A2 focuses on technical refinement and interpretive depth through increasingly challenging solo repertoire. Students develop:

  • Secure shifting throughout the upper positions
  • Advanced vibrato control for tone color and expression
  • Faster scales, arpeggios, and technical studies
  • Clean execution of advanced bow strokes including sautillé and ricochet preparation
  • Improved sight-reading and ensemble leadership skills
  • Greater understanding of musical style, phrasing, and historical interpretation

Repertoire includes:

  • Concerto in A Minor, 1st Movement (Accolay)
  • Meditation (Massenet – selected excerpt)
  • Sicilienne (Paradis)
  • Hungarian Dance No. 5 (simplified)

This level refines technique and artistry while preparing students for advanced solo and ensemble performance.

A3 – Artist Level (24 weeks)

A3 represents the culmination of the program, where students perform with technical confidence, musical maturity, and artistic independence. Students master:

  • Confident playing across multiple positions
  • Advanced scales, arpeggios, double stops, and expressive vibrato
  • Sophisticated bow control with a wide range of articulations and tone colors
  • Advanced musical interpretation, phrasing, and performance practice
  • Solo performance preparation and ensemble leadership
  • Independent practice strategies for continued musical growth

Repertoire includes:

  • Concerto in G Major, 1st Movement (Kabalevsky)
  • Air on the G String (Bach)
  • Meditation from Thaïs (complete or selected)
  • Introduction and Tarantella (selected excerpts)

This level prepares students for advanced youth orchestras, conservatory entrance pathways, and lifelong artistic development through the expressive, technically refined traditions of the Franco-Belgian violin school.
