B1 – Foundations (5 weeks)
B1 is the introductory level where students build the essential physical and musical foundations needed to play the violin confidently. Students learn:
- How to hold the violin and bow with correct posture
- Basic finger placement and left‑hand coordination
- Core music‑theory concepts: rhythm, pitch, and simple note reading
- Their first scale and how scales connect to beginner melodies
Culminating piece:
- Hot Cross Buns — a simple, scale‑based song that reinforces rhythm, intonation, and bow control
This level is designed to give students a strong, comfortable start before moving into more complex skills.
B2 – Building Skills (10 weeks)
B2 expands the student’s technical and musical abilities while introducing longer pieces and more detailed theory. Students develop:
- Next‑step rhythm skills (steady beat, simple patterns, quarter/eighth notes)
- Improved pitch accuracy and finger placement
- Additional music‑theory topics such as steps, intervals, and basic musical form
- Confidence playing short, recognizable melodies
Repertoire includes:
- Happy Birthday
- Mary Had a Little Lamb
- Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
This level strengthens consistency, musicality, and comfort reading and performing simple pieces.
B3 – Early Performance Level (15 weeks)
B3 prepares students for more expressive playing, longer pieces, and early ensemble readiness. Students advance in:
- Scale fluency and intonation
- More complex rhythm patterns
- Bowing control and tone production
- Musical phrasing and dynamics
Repertoire includes:
- Ode to Joy
- Amazing Grace
- Auld Lang Syne
- Jingle Bells
This level builds confidence, musical expression, and readiness for the Intermediate Stream.
